CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A standoff incident at 2449 First Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids ended peacefully about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Cedar Rapids police, along with the Special Response Team, got to the scene just before 7 a.m. It was called a "standoff," although one of the people at the home later told the media there were no weapons involved. Officers arrested Kyle Peterson, 30 at 9:25 a.m. He is facing charges of Domestic Abuse.
The parent of the home’s occupant, who wouldn’t identify himself, said he and his wife came over to their son’s home Tuesday morning to talk about some things. He wouldn’t elaborate, but said things got “haywire and out of control,” and they had to notify the police.
“He has problems and wants to get help,” his wife, who also didn’t identify herself, said about her son.
Police had blocked off First Ave. SW near Cleveland Elementary School for approximately 2 and a half hours during the incident. The school was put on a partial lockdown Tuesday morning due to the proximity to the incident.
