CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Voters in two area school districts have passed bond issues, one of them turned out to be a very close election.

First, in the Anamosa School District where voters, by a very narrow margin, approved a nearly $17 million bond issue. 60.6% (781) of the voters approved. The measure needed 60% to pass. So far, 508 voters turned down the measure. However, this could change because there are 13 absentee ballots that have not been counted. If these results hold, the money will be used to complete several projects including science lab additions at the high school, security improvements and a performing arts center.

Voters in the West Central Community School District in Fayette County passed a $7.6 million bond issue to build a new junior and senior high building. The results are about 78% 'Yes' (439) and 22% percent 'No' (124).

The district, in Maynard, plans tear down the old 1920's building and build a new one nearby. District leaders say the current building doesn't have enough space and technology for modern classrooms and that the building is not safe.
