CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A sad day was made a little more special when Navy Lieutenant Commander Kelsey Foster arrived at the Eastern Iowa Airport bound for Afghanistan.

Foster was greeted by the Patriot Guard. Flags lined his path to the airport as each step closer to the doors to the airport made his heart heavier and heavier. He was saying good-bye to family for nine months of deployment.

This Patriot Guard send off is a little more personal to Foster. His father is one of the people that has been part of the Patriot Guard group, volunteering to make sure service members know they are appreciated. Larry Foster, Kelsey's father, said it's bitter sending off his son, but he's proud that he can serve our nation.
