DUBUQUE, Iowa - A newly formed Dubuque family is relaxing a little more today now that they know the federal adoption tax credit will stay in place.

Mike and Sara Wiedemann recently adopted their son Nic from South Korea. The family relied on a $12,000 tax credit to help cover the cost of the international adoption. The tax credit was set to expire December 31st, but Democratic Congressman Bruce Braley along with 40 other law-makers sponsored a bill making that credit permanent.

"Republicans and Democrats alike started saying this is really important," Congressman Braley said. "We need to make sure this gets done. That's when Washington is working the way it's suppose to."

"We will use the money for the cost of travel and adoption and just having a one year old in daycare. Maybe we'll wait and use it for a second adoption," Sara Wiedemann said.

The Wiedemanns say Nic is adjusting well to life in Iowa.
