IOWA CITY, Iowa - Police said a University of Iowa camper who claimed to be assaulted in downtown Iowa City earlier this month made the whole thing up.

On July 15, a student participating in a UI camp reported to police that he was assaulted in an alley in downtown Iowa City. Based on what the boy said about the incident, police investigated the alleged crime as an assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.

On Wednesday, police said an investigation into the incident revealed the boy had filed a false report and no assault occurred. No charges will be filed, police said.
