Police: Dubuque Woman Uses Craigslist for Hit Job on Her Father

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Police arrested a Dubuque woman after she allegedly used a Craigslist ad to hire someone to kill her father.
The Dubuque County Sheriff's Department said Megan Schmidt, 23 posted an inquiry Saturday that offered $10,000 for an undisclosed job. Interested callers were told upfront about the murder-for-hire job.
Investigators said someone saw the ad online and tipped off the sheriff's department. An undercover deputy responded to the ad and agreed to meet Schmidt at the Holiday Inn.
Through correspondence on Craigslist, Schmidt told an undercover officer she would give him $10,000 the day after someone killed her father. According to court documents, the officer told Schmidt he would either shoot or stab the man.
Schmidt told police she put the ad on Craigslist because she wanted her father to be killed because he assaulted her since she was a kid
Schmidt was arrested and is at the Dubuque County Jail on $50,000 cash-only bond. She faces felony charges of attempted murder and solicitation to commit murder.
Court records do not list an attorney.
