MARENGO, Iowa -- An Ottumwa woman was killed when the motorcycle she was riding on crashed Saturday.

According to an Iowa State Patrol minimal crash report, Michael G. Muldoon, 56, of Ottumwa was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 near the 207 mile marker, between the Brooklyn and Marengo exits, at 10:47 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said the rear tire of Muldoon’s 1991 Honda motorcycle deflated and caused Muldoon to lose control.

Muldoon and his passenger, 62-year-old Mary Beth Penne were thrown from the motorcycle, police said. Penne has died as a result of her injuries. Muldoon was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
