One Person Killed in Cedar Rapids Crash

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - One person has been killed following a car accident along Mount Vernon Road in southeast Cedar Rapids.

The crash happened shortly after 1:20 p.m. Monday, in the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Road Southeast.

According to police, one vehicle crossed the center line and struck a grain truck head on. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 45-year-old man, died at the scene. His name, and more details surrounding the crash, are expected to be released on Tuesday.

Mt. Vernon Road was closed immediately after the crash and will continue to be closed until approximately 5 p.m. for clean up. The public should select an alternate route.
