One Dead after Falling Through Ice

SABULA, Iowa - One man is dead and another injured after they fell through the ice Friday afternoon.

At 4:39 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff's Office was called to South Sabula Lake because two men had fallen through the ice. Ronald Kerkhoff, 65, of German Valley, Ill. and his son, Jacob Kerkhoff, 18, had been fishing there.

Sabula Fire and Ambulance rescued the men from the lake and took them to Mercy North in Clinton. Jacob Kerkhoff was treated for his injuries and released. Ronald Kerkhoff died at the hospital.
