Crash Near Ryan Kills 9-Year-Old, Injures Six Others
RYAN, Iowa - Two cars crashed at an intersection just west of Ryan Saturday afternoon killing a 9-year-old and injuring six others.
The Iowa State Patrol said they were called to the crash at 1:43 p.m. Saturday where a car driven by Lucas Kinney, 19, of Manchester, was traveling north on 140th Avenue and didn't stop at a stop sign. That car hit 41-year-old Robbie Blanchard's van that was driving west on County Highway D47. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch.
Kinney was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He had not been wearing his seatbelt. Blanchard was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
The crash also injured David Kounse, 23, of Central City; Anthony Buisman, 21, of Manchester; Amy Blanchard, 37, of Coggon and a six-year-old. Kounse also had to be airlifted to University of Iowa.
The nine-year-old that died in the crash was in Blanchard's vehicle. She was taken to a Manchester hospital and died a short time after the crash.
