CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A young woman from Marion has been identified as the victim in a fatal car crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 380 near Cedar Rapids.
Two vehicles collided head-on around 3:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-380, just south of the Wright Brothers Boulevard overpass. One of the drivers, Kelley McLaren, 25, of Marion, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police determined a car driven by Chase Goers, 17, of Cedar Rapids, was southbound in the northbound lanes before his car struck McLaren's car. Goers was airlifted to an Iowa City hospital with life-threatening injuries police said.
Officer Melissa Henderson, a police spokeswoman, said investigators were still working to determine why Goers was driving the wrong way. No charges have been filed.
No official medical condition was available for Goers, who was at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours while police investigated the accident Sunday morning.
