Mount Mercy Student Killed in Colorado Boating Accident
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Friends are mourning an eastern Iowa college student who died in a Colorado boating accident last week.
Authorities say 21-year-old Haley Rinaldi, of Basalt, Colo., was killed Friday at the Ruedi Reservoir north of Aspen. Rinaldi was studying biology at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, and was also a member of the women's soccer team. She transferred from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, in 2012.
A coroner in Eagle County, Colo., says Rinaldi was being pulled on a tube behind a boat when the tow rope snapped, and the metal connector struck her in the head. Her death has been ruled an accident.
Service arrangements are pending.
