Motorcade Escorts Fallen Police Officer Back Home
DES MOINES, Iowa —A motorcade of about 15 vehicles left Des Moines headed north Saturday to take Officer Jamie Buenting home.
Buenting, 37, was shot and killed during a standoff in Rockwell City early Friday. His body was brought to the State Medical Examiner's Office.
The motorcade headed north on Interstate 35 about 6 p.m. It was made up of police cars, State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.
Authorities said Corey Trott, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case. He is being held in the Sac County Jail.
Authorities said Buenting is survived by his wife and two children. A fund has been set up for Buenting's family at the First Community Bank, P.O. Box 268 in Rockwell City 50579.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the South Central Calhoun Middle School Gymnasium in Rockwell City. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City. A visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Palmer and Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City.
