LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Miss Iowa, Mariah Cary, was fourth runner up in Saturday night's Miss America Pageant. Mallory Hagan, Miss New York, took first place.
Cary is originally from Burlington but attends Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids for public relations. The 20-year-old was diagnosed at a young age with Tourette Syndrome and said if she won, she would have advocated for the disease.
During the pageant, she performed tap for the talent portion of the night and answered a question about medical marijuana once she made the top five. She told the judges that she knew people who used marijuana for medical purposes, but she thought that should be the only reason people use it.
Cary didn't walk away empty-handed though. For earning honors as Miss Iowa, she got over $50,000 in scholarships.
