By Jay Knoll

MARION, Iowa - The Marion Police Department has received its first shipment of AR-15 rifles. City council members approved the purchase in January. The next step is to plan three-day training session for officers who have never used the semi-automatic weapons.

Chief Harry Daugherty says the extra fire-power will help protect his team and the public. The chief says 25 of the 39 semi-automatic assault rifles have arrived. He hopes officers never have to use the weapons but is glad they'll have them if they're needed.
