DELHI, Iowa — Officials with the Maquoketa Valley Community Schools confirm that the Delhi campus was put in to a lockdown on Tuesday afternoon.
Maquoketa Valley Community Schools Superintendent Doug Tuetken told KCRG.com that the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department advised the school to go on lockdown. “There was a severe accident just north of Delhi ... They asked us to go down until they could contain the situation,” Tuetken said.
The superintendent said the Delhi campus, which is one facility consisting of Delhi Elementary, Maquoketa Valley Middle School and Maquoketa Valley High School, was on lockdown for about 20 minutes between 2:25 and 2:50 or 2:55 p.m.
Tuetken said no students or staff were involved in the accident but couldn’t say what type of accident it was. Administrators had to reroute some school buses.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department is expected to release more information.
