IOWA CITY, Iowa - Police said an Iowa City woke up to find a drunk man passed out on his bedroom floor.
Iowa City police officers were flagged down by the citizen - who is not named in criminal complaints - at 6:37 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Dubuque and Court streets. The man pointed out another man, later identified as Trevor M. Asmussen, 24, of Dubuque and told police he had just dropped him off. Furthermore, the man told police he had woken up in his bedroom earlier that morning and discovered Asmussen asleep on his bedroom floor.
Police said the man did not know Asmussen and had no idea how he got into his house.
Asmussen had bloodshot, watery eyes, was swaying and smelled strongly of alcohol, police said. A breath test taken after Asmussen was in custody showed he had a blood-alcohol content of .139 percent.
Asmussen was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. According to court records, Asmussen posted a $300 bond and was released from jail. He has pleaded not guilty to public intoxication and a bench trial has been set for Nov. 11.
