WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo man convicted of fatally shooting his ex-fiancee's mother has been sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder.

Judge Todd Geer also sentenced Kevin Ambrose Monday to 50 years in prison for two attempted murder charges. A five-year sentence on a firearm charge will run concurrently.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports sheriff's deputies cleared the courtroom before sentencing after arguments between Ambrose, his family and the family of his ex-fiance, Marlene Buss, turned physical.

The 34-year-old Ambrose was convicted in February for the death of 59-year-old Kay Straw. He also was convicted of shooting Buss and trying to shoot the father of Buss' children, Undray Reed.
