Man Gets Up to 5 Years for Soliciting Murder
CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) — A 31-year-old northern Iowa man has been given up to five years in prison for soliciting the murder of a teenage girl who'd accused him of sexual assault.
Alan Cannon, of Clear Lake, had pleaded guilty in January after prosecutors dropped three related charges. The Mason City Globe Gazette says Cannon told the court on Monday that he knows his actions had brought him shame.
Authorities say Cannon tried to hire someone between Nov. 25, 2011, and March 25, 2012, to kill the teenager. In June last year a jury convicted Cannon of a misdemeanor assault charge and of supplying alcohol in the original case. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500.
