Law Enforcement To Step Up Patrol On Interstate 80

By Aaron Hepker

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Law enforcement in 11 states across the county are planning a crackdown on Interstate 80 in the coming days to increase safety on the heavily traveled roadway.

At a news conference scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Des Moines, state officials are expected to announce an increase in patrol across the 300 mile stretch interstate in Iowa.

The increase in patrol has been dubbed the "I-80 Challenge." Officials say it will begin this week and last through the end of the month, historically a deadly stretch on 80.

Patrol is expected to increase all along the 2,900 miles of Interstate 80 stretching across the country.

The crackdown will be one of the largest traffic safety efforts in recent history.
