CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Jury selection continues Wednesday in the murder trial of Jerome Power, who is accused of killing his 68-year-old neighbor in 2010.

Attorneys will resume questioning of prospective jurors 9 a.m. in Linn County District Court. Opening statements could get started in the afternoon.

Jury selection didn't get underway until Tuesday afternoon because the court heard pre-trial motions in the morning. Most of the afternoon was used to conduct individual questioning of the jury panel regarding pre-trial publicity of the case.

Power, 50, of Cedar Rapids, charged with first-degree murder, is accused of killing Doris Bevins, 68, who was found by police in her home unconscious on the floor with flannel pants wrapped around her neck Sept. 19, 2010, according to police reports. She died the next day. According to a medical examiner's report, the cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation.

Power, who lived in the same apartment building, was found hiding inside behind the entry door of Bevins' residence when police smashed a window to enter the locked apartment, according to a search warrant.

Reporter Trish Mehaffey will provide live coverage from the courtroom as soon as testimony begins. Viewers can submit questions for her and provide comments on the live blog.

The trial is expected to go into next week.
