Jefferson Show Choir to Compete in Nationals After All
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Despite initially being told it would not be allowed to compete, the Jefferson High School Westside Delegation show choir team will attend nationals later this month.
Team members were given a choice last week on whether they wanted to compete as the competition conflicts with prom and a national track competition. Jefferson principal, Charles McDonnell initially forbid the team from going to nationals because of those conflicts.
“We met with those students who are able to attend and determined that re-blocking the show would be doable,” said the team's director, Kent Keating.
The FAME competition schedule has not been announced yet, but is scheduled for April 26-27 in Chicago. The Westside Delegation qualified for nationals during a competition in Orlando, Florida last month.
All expenses for the competition will be covered. FAME is paying for the hotel and registration costs while boosters and donations will pay for transportation to Chicago.
Cedar Rapids Washington High School is also helping out. Because Jefferson's prom conflicts with nationals, Washington will allow show choir members to attend its prom a week earlier.
