Jefferson High School Choir Takes Honors at National Competition
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Jefferson High School show choir is moving on to nationals. The group performed Saturday at the Fun Achievement Music Excellence or FAME Orlando competition.
Family and friends welcomed the group back to Iowa Wednesday morning. The school's show choir, West Side Delegation took third place in the Mixed Show Choir section of the competition. The top three schools qualify for the National Show Choir Finals.
The school also took honors in three other categories. The Jefferson High School Meistersingers was honored with awards in Best Choral Tone and Best Repertoire. Jefferson student Odeta Mvuyekule also got Best Female Solo.
"It's just been my pleasure to work with them. They do anything I ask them and just constantly put out a lot of great effort. It's been a very successful year," Kent Keating, West Side Delegation director, said.
Another Iowa show choir, Ankeny High School Visual Adrenaline, took the top honor at the Mixed Show Choir competition. Ankeny also got awards in Best Male Stage Presence, Best Choreography and Best Vocals.
Both choirs now move on to the National Show Choir Finals in Chicago April 26 and 27 at the Arie Crown Theatre. The winner gets awarded the Show Choir Cup
