ANKENY, Iowa (AP) - Police have charged an Ankeny father after they say he shot his 18-year-old daughter to death in the apartment they shared.

Police say someone in the apartment called 911 around 5:30 p.m. Friday to report a shooting. Officers arrived to find Emily Nicole Hazelbaker dead from a single gunshot.

Her father, 51-year-old Scott Hazelbaker, was questioned, along with another man. Police said Saturday that Hazelbaker has been arrested and charged with assault by intentionally pointing a weapon.

Police continue to investigate, but say early reports suggest Scott Hazelbaker pointed a handgun at his daughter and pulled the trigger without knowing the gun was loaded.

Police found the gun at the scene.
