Crash on I-80 Kills Iowa City Driver
CEDAR COUNTY, Iowa - The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fatal collision on Interstate 80 east of Iowa City. It happened around 12:30 Thursday morning near the Atalissa exit, according to a preliminary report.
Officers say a Hyundai driven by Shuying Guo, 58, of Iowa City, lost control and started rolling. It crossed from the westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes. Guo got out of the car and then was hit and killed by a semi. The trailer truck came to rest in the median but did not tip over.
One NewsLine9 caller reported traffic was at a standstill for several hours while investigators were on the scene. The Iowa Department of Transportation's website indicated the lanes were clear around 5 a.m.
The State Patrol says it is still investigating the crash.
