Investigators Waiting on Subpoenaed Documents in Hot Lotto Mystery
By James Q. Lynch, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Iowa investigators continue to follow leads in the case of a $7.5 million Hot Lotto that was drawn nearly two years ago.
The ticket, valued at $7.5 million after taxes, was drawn by the Iowa Lottery Dec. 29, 2010, but the prize has never been awarded.
A New York attorney acting on behalf of a Belize-based investment trust filed paperwork for the prize less than two hours before the jackpot was slated to expire a year ago. However, the claim was withdrawn after Lottery officials said they would not pay the money unless their questions were answered.
The case remains under investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
A DCI agent said the agency is following up on a number of legal documents that have been subpoenaed. It is waiting for some from out of state, he said.
