Last Minute Donations Save Fourth of July Fireworks
FORT DODGE, Iowa —A Fort Dodge family is being credited with saving the fireworks display in Fort Dodge this year.
The Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance said Kevin and Karen Alstott, owners of C&S Products, provided funding for the fireworks.
"The fireworks show just wasn't going to happen," said Fort Dodge Mayor Matt Bemrich.
The Growth Alliance reported that "the Alstotts contacted the Alliance about making a donation after reading reports Saturday that the fireworks display was to be canceled."
"Kevin and I thought it was important that Fort Dodge have a fireworks show for the holiday. We need to remember what the Fourth of July is about," Karen Alstott in a news release issued by the Growth Alliance.
The display was originally canceled after the $13,000 in funding needed was not raised.
"At this zero hour, thinking maybe it couldn't be done. We just felt it was really, really important to get it done," said Karen Alstott.
The show will begin at dusk on Wednesday near the Des Moines River. You can find a complete list of Iowa fireworks displays here.
