CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- An estimated 65 Alliant Energy customers in northeast Cedar Rapids are waiting for the power to come back on after a garbage truck snagged a cable and telephone line this morning, yanking down two power poles.

The accident happened around 8:20 a.m. today at Hollywood Boulevard and Council Street NE. That's near Wright Elementary School, though the school itself still has power.

Alliant told TV9 it’s trying to reroute power to the impacted homes, since replacing two poles will take a while.

The process may impact traffic in the area.
