Fire at Cedar Rapids Home Displaces Five People
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A fire in northwest Cedar Rapids left four adults and a teenager without a home Saturday morning.
It happened at about 2 a.m. at 925 A Ave NW when one of the residents called 911 about a fire in a second floor bedroom.
When firefighters got there, smoke and flames were coming from the bedroom window. Investigators say the fire mostly surrounded a mattress and chimney in the room.
The fire caused smoke and heat damage throughout the second floor but little damage on the first floor.
The home's utilities had to be shut off to precent any further damage. Now the Red Cross is helping the five people who once lived there.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
