IOWA CITY, Iowa - Firefighters responded just after midnight to 328 N. Dubuque Street for a report of an apartment fire. The first units on the scene saw smoke coming from the eaves on the roof.

Firefighters entered and had the flames under control in 15 minutes, according to a release sent by Battalion Chief Brian Platz. The fire was completely extinguished after 45 minutes and contained to the floor where it started.

Firefighters reported the fire started near a ceiling-mounted light fixture on the second floor. However, investigators had not determined the cause as of the time of the release. An estimate places the total damage to the building and property at $40,000.

All six apartment unites were evacuated before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
