WEST UNION, Iowa — A Saturday fire destroyed the “beef barn” at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.

Fair board member Kevin Converse said the fire, which was reported around 6:30 p.m., destroyed the building where cattle are normally housed during the annual fair and caused some damage to the siding of the adjacent dairy building.

Converse said no cattle were in the building and no one was hurt in the blaze. But there were several campers and a tractor, which has been stored in the building over the winter, which likely were destroyed.

West Union fire officials were not available for comment late Saturday and no cause of the fire was disclosed.
