Driver Arrested After Police Chase, Crash in Marion

MARION, Iowa - An Olin man was arrested after police chased a stolen vehicle in Marion early Wednesday morning, officials said.

A Marion police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for driving without headlights around 1:04 a.m. The driver, 25-year-old Michael Moman, refused to pull over and a vehicle pursuit ensued, officials said.

The driver lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Eighth Avenue and 31st Street, and it left the roadway and came to rest in the Advance Auto parking lot at 3100 Seventh Avenue, a news release said. Moman was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said.

Moman was transported to Mercy Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, and later taken to the Linn County Jail.

Authorities discovered the vehicle driven by Moman was stolen from a Cedar Rapids residence. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft, operating while intoxicated, eluding, driving while license barred, operating a vehicle while headlights required, disobeying a traffic signal, disobeying a stop sign and failure to maintain control. This is Moman's second operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated offense, police said.
