Des Moines to Host Group from Russian Sister City

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - City officials, the director of a brewery, and an English teacher from the Des Moines sister city of Stavropol (stavRAHpehl), Russia will visit Des Moines for five days beginning Sunday.

The delegation will include the Russian city's vice mayor, first deputy head of the city's administration, and an economic development leader.

Des Moines' sister city commission has a three-year plan to foster business, cultural and educational ties with its sister cities. The visit is part of the plan.

The group will visit a State Center dairy farm, tour the Iowa Capitol, a school, the Exile Brewing Company, and the State Historical Building.

Des Moines has had a sister city relationship with Stavropol since 1992. It has similar relationships with cities in Japan, France, China, and Italy.
