One Killed in Crash that Closes Marquette Bridge

MARQUETTE -- One person is dead and another seriously hurt after a head-on crash on a key bridge connecting Iowa and Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reports a two cars collided head-on on the Marquette bridge on Highway 18, connecting Marquette with Prairie du Chien, around 4:30 pm Sunday. One person was killed in the crash. Two others were hurt, one of them suffering life-threatening injuries.

The crash shut the bridge for several hours Sunday. The Marquette bridge is the only bridge across the Mississippi River for 40-miles.
