SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A federal lawsuit filed by a part-time city clerk alleges sexual harassment and retaliation by the city manager of Sioux City.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday by Brittany Scott names City manager Paul Eckert and the city, saying the city covered up complaints.

Scott says Eckert made sexual overtures starting in 2000 that stopped after she talked to council members about him. Scott says he retaliated by demoting her.

She also says other female city employees have complained about Eckert's behavior.

Eckert says the allegations are baseless.

Mayor Bob Scott, who isn't related to Brittany Scott, says he doesn't expect the council to take any action against Eckert and that the issue will be decided in court.

The lawsuit seeks back pay and compensation for emotional distress and counseling expenses.
