CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — After seven years of operation, CiCi's Pizza across from Westdale Mall will close this Sunday.

Geoff Goodman, vice president of Coppell, Texas-based CiCi's, said the local franchise owners made the decision to shut down.

"We hope to bring back our fresh pizza, pasta, salad, soup and dessert buffet to the community in the future," Goodman added.

The Linn County Health Department reportedly closed the restaurant briefly last week for failure to renew its license. An inspection also found that a cooler needed to be repaired to maintain a temperature of 41 degrees or lower for food storage.

The 4,700-square-foot restaurant opened in fall 2006. Gerry Ambrose of Ambrose Development in Coralville said he hopes to attract another restaurant to Edgewood Market.

"I also would be willing to subdivide the space," Ambrose said Wednesday.

CiCi's Pizza is closing as regional restaurant chain Pizza Ranch of Orange City, IA, is preparing to open a location at Westdale Drive and Williams Boulevard SW, a few blocks away.

Brandon Pratt, who also operates the Pizza Ranch at 1610 Sycamore St. in Iowa City, expects to open his 5,700-square-foot restaurant in mid to late April. The Cedar Rapids Pizza Ranch will seat 224, employ about 75 and have a a drive-up window.

Pizza Ranch will be located across the former Target parking lot from the new west side branch of the Cedar Rapids Public Library. The new 21,000-square-foot Ladd Library opens at 10 a.m., Saturday.
