CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids firefighters contained a chlorine leak Friday night at the city's northwest water treatment plant.

Water department employees reported an alarm activated just before 6:00 p.m. Firefighters put on haz-mat suits to check levels in the chlorine container room at 7807 Ellis Road Northwest.

Workers stopped the leak about 7:45 p.m. There were reports of any injuries.

The water department says the plant was off-line between 5:30 and 8:00 Friday night, and the chlorine did not contaminate any water going out to the public.
