Cedar Rapids Fall Citizen Police Academy Begins
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For those wondering what it is like to be a police officer, you can now find out for yourself. The Cedar Rapids Police Department's Citizens Police Academy began their fall classes Tuesday. The program is aimed toward those living in Linn County. It's not meant to train people to become police officers, but instead to increase the understanding between citizens and officers. Specifically, how officers execute the department's mission everyday.
"It's really just making ambassadors so that they can understand that when police officers respond to something, they have to make a split second decision. Sometimes that's a life and death situation," Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
The program lasts for ten weeks and costs $30 per person. Applications can be found by contacting the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
