Car Slides onto Cedar River
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids teen is doing okay after her car slid onto the icy Cedar River Saturday morning.
It happened in the 1400 block of Seminole Valley Road NE by Seminole Park at 8:45 a.m. Saturday.
The 17-year-old driver said she lost control of her car on Ellis Road Northwest. She said she jumped out of the car before it went into a ditch and slid across the river.
"I don't recall one when the car did an ice skating event across the river with the temps be what they are was a concern for the fire department," Greg Buelow with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department said.
Firefighters worked to drag the car off the ice before the weight of the vehicle collapsed through the ice. The woman was not injured in the incident. The case is under investigation.
