Bridge Reopening Allows Use of Trail

By Rachel Begle

LA PORTE CITY, Iowa (AP) - The public is invited to a celebration to mark the reopening of the McFarlane Bridge on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.

The event at 11 a.m. Saturday will be near the entrance to McFarlane Park, just east of La Porte City.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the Cedar Valley Nature Trails were heavily damaged by flooding in 2008, causing portions to close. The Cedar River trail bridge near Evansdale reopened in 2011 and the McFarlane Bridge was rebuilt last December.

With the reopening of both bridges, the 52-mile trail is again complete. It runs from Evansdale to Hiawatha.
