WATERLOO, Iowa -- An autopsy performed on a body found in the Cedar River Tuesday afternoon has revealed that she died of an accidental drowning.
Officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Texas Street at 2:20 p.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked off the road on a gravel drive. Police spoke with witnesses who said the vehicle had been parked there since Sunday.
Police said they spoke with the registered owner of the vehicle, who told officers that her daughter, 35-year-old Shanda F. Werkmeister, had been driving the car. The woman also told police she had not seen her daughter for a couple of days.
Police searched the area and found Werkmeister floating in the river. Capt. Tom Pillack of the Waterloo Police Department’s investigation unit said Werkmeister lived about two miles away from where she was found.
