Body Found in Mississippi River Thought to Be Missing Snowmobiler

JACKSON COUNTY, Iowa - A body found in the Mississippi River on Monday is thought to be a Jackson County snowmobiler.

According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Corps of Engineers discovered a body in a snowsuit while dredging the Mississippi River on Monday.

Authorities suspect the body could be Shawn Berthel, who went through the ice on his snowmobile on January 22, 2011.

The body was sent to Ankeny for an autopsy and identification.
