Apartment Building Fire Forces 10 From Homes

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A late afternoon fire has forced 10 Cedar Rapids residents, including four children, out of their homes Saturday..

Firefighters say it happened about 5:30 in an apartment building at 3300 Oakland Road NE. They say everyone escaped safely.

Crews say most of the fire was in the attic of the laundry room in the basement. They say all apartments suffered extensive smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
