Suspect in Amber Alert Taken Into Custody, Facing Kidnapping Charge
BENTON COUNTY, Iowa - Sean Shannon, the man accused of kidnapping an 11-year-old girl prompting an Amber Alert Friday night, was arrested Sunday morning in Cedar Rapids. Officials said he was taken into custody at 11:27 a.m. Sunday in Cedar Rapids by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office said Sean Shannon, 37, showed up at 501 Main St., Shellsburg at 8:42 p.m. Thursday. They said Sean punched a 15-year-old, took the girl and fled the scene. The 15-year-old is no relation to Sean Shannon. Deputies said Shannon does not have parental rights.
Officials had issued the Amber Alert fshortly after 10 p.m., Friday. About an hour later, she was found near the intersection of 42nd Street and Center Point Road in northeast Cedar Rapids, unharmed.
Shannon is facing a charge of 3rd degree kidnapping and is currently in the Benton County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday morning.
