Community children may visit the University of Northern Iowa residence halls for trick-or-treating on Halloween night, Wednesday, Oct. 31. The UNI Department of Residence Programming Board and residence hall senates are sponsoring Halloween activities in the residence hall lobbies and door-to-door trick-or-treating. Campbell and Shull Halls will be open to trick-or-treaters from 5 to 7 p.m., and Hagemann, Lawther, Dancer, Noehren and Rider Halls will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Participating children and their families may stop by the residence hall lobbies to receive directions for trick-or-treating activities.

The 8th Annual Halloween Harvest is at the Kennedy Mall in Dubuque from 5-7 pm.
Halloween Harvest is a fun, family friendly event that celebrates the spirit of Halloween.  It is a night complete with costumes, candy, games, contests and a dance party!  Tickets are $5.00 per child and all proceeds go to Hills & Dales!

The Dubuque Jaycees – Haunted Forest 2007 - Oct. 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and 39th. The Haunted Forest returns to the YMCA Camp at 15976 JFK Road in Dubuque.  Lite Fright begins at 6:30 pm and lasts approximately one hour.  Full Fright begins immediately after Lite Fright.  The Forest is open until 10:00 pm on Thursdays and later on Friday and Saturday nights.   Cost of admission is $7.00.  All proceeds benefit local community activities.

The Jr. Class of Postville will be on hand to provide lots of ghosts and ghouls among the corn to help liven up your Halloween.  Real pirates will help guide visitors through the Maze at night, with unexpected turns and twists and a few surprises along the way!
Cost of admission is $5.00 per person, and flashlights will be provided if you don’t bring one along.  Bring your friends down to the Maze and join the fun… if you dare! This activity is a collaboration of efforts between the Postville Jr. Class, Country Heritage Community, Fayette County Conservation and the four counties of Northeast Iowa--Fayette, Clayton, Winneshiek and Allamakee.

The Midwest Central Railroad and Old Threshers' Midwest Electric Railway take on an eerie feel for its annual "Ghost Train of No Return and the Ghostly Trolley."
This year, the MCRR joins forces with the Midwest Electric Railway on a single price "all you can ride" wrist-band for $8.00 per person. Ages 4 and under are free. No reservations are required for the Haunted Rails. The trains and trolleys along with the Old Threshers' bus between the two venues operates from 6:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. Grant Wood Neighborhood Harvest Party - Oct. 27th 4-7 pm
The ghosts and goblins will be out a few days earlier than Halloween this year - at least in the Grant Wood neighborhood. This Saturday, October 27th, kids (young and old alike!) are invited to don their favorite costumes and head to Grant Wood School at 1930 Lakeside Drive for the second annual Harvest Party, hosted by the Grant Wood Neighborhood Association. The event, scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. in the large school gym, offers loads of family-oriented fun, including free food and a variety of free activities: haunted house, inflatable Jumping Giraffe, a costume contest, and other games and prizes. A silent auction and raffle are also scheduled. Children who attend must be accompanied by an adult. This neighborhood event is funded through the donations of many Iowa City businesses and sponsors, as well as grant funds from the City of Iowa City Program for Improving Neighborhoods. Halloween Parade and Carnival - Friday, October 26 @ 6:15pm
Children and their parents or caretakers should meet in costume at the Weatherdance Fountain in downtown Iowa City between 6-6:15pm. The Parade will begin at 6:15pm with the route heading east on College Street to the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center. Once inside the recreation center, children may participate in carnival games, crafts, cookie decorating, face painting, fortune telling, and a haunted hallway. UI Libraries Presents 'Ghosts from the Stacks' Collection - Oct. 31 at noon

In celebration of Halloween, the University of Iowa Libraries is unlocking the archives to expose artifacts on grave robbing, demon conjuring, local hauntings and other spooky subjects covered in the university's collection of rare books, manuscripts and ephemeral publications. Librarians from Special Collections, University Archives and the Hardin Library for Health Sciences' John Martin Rare Book Room will discuss highlights from their collections at a presentation titled "Ghosts From the Stacks," which will be held in Room 2032 of the Main Library at noon Wednesday, Oct. 31. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public.

Ghost Stories and Night Tours of the Historic Granger House starting at 7 - from 7-8 there will be ghost stories around a bonfire and then at 8:00, 8:30 and 9:15 there will be guided night tours of the Granger house.

Haunted House for Pre-school-3rd Graders - Oct. 27 (10-5) and 28 (10-4)
139 Marion Blvd, in the Indian Creek Mall by Mcdonalds and near Thomas Park.  Access- from 1st st.,at McDonalds, if coming from east side of Marion.  Presented by Girl Scout Troop 5040. This haunted house is especially for kids from preschool to 3rd grade.  The haunted house will be put on the 27th and 28th of October.  On Saturday the 27th we will be open from 10am-5pm and on Sunday the 28th we'll be open from 10am-4pm.  We are holding this haunted house as a fundraiser for the troop to save up money for their train trip to San Fransisco next spring, this will also make all the kids happy.  The troop has been holding this haunted house for 9 years now. Costs is $3.00 per child and parents are free.

Wapello Fire and Rescue Haunted House - Friday and Saturday nights in October from 7PM to Midnight

Take Highway 61 1 mile South of Wapello. Turn West on 65th St. and go 2 miles. Turn South on L Ave. and go 1/2 mile. It is located in an abandoned farm house. The last local haunted house was held in 1999. It was a very successful annual event in the past drawing people from all over Eastern Iowa but was discontinued due to dissolution of local Jaycees chapter. With the help of some former members the Wapello Fire Department has resurrected the event to raise funds for their service. It should be a pretty good haunted house and the money goes to a good cause. 2006 Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

The Haunted Waubonsie Trail - October 25 - 27

This winding 1/2 mile trail located in Cantril, Iowa has some of the most gruesome sights you will ever endure. If you survive ! This is an all-outdoor event, located in "bootiful" Waubonsie Park - Cantril, Iowa - so come prepared for any type of weather. Trail guides will lead you on an all-weather trail for 1/2 mile through woods and around a lake. Over 100 actors and technical staff come together for 3 terrifying nights each year just before Halloween to make your walk something you will be waiting for again year after year.
