CEDAR RAPIDS - The state is starting to look into the situation at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons hotel in Cedar Rapids.
Since last spring, KCRG-TV9 reported numerous financial problems at the downtown hotel, everything from not paying state sales taxes to bouncing payroll checks for employees.
Tuesday, State Representative Todd Taylor said Iowa Workforce Development is now investigating the hotel.
"They're looking at the books, they're saying why are we seeing a problem here. Beyond that I don't have a whole lot of details other than it's raised enough questions to say we need to look further," said Taylor.
Taylor says the investigation isn't easy. He says one reason is that out of the 90 employees at the hotel, only one has formally filed a complaint with the state. Taylor said the state needs more complaints to document alleged wrong-doings happening at the hotel.
