Crowne Plaza Owners Overdue on State Taxes

CEDAR RAPIDS - The owners of the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel in Cedar Rapids owe the state tax money.

They owe so much money that the state has put a lien against the owners, according to a representative from the Iowa's Department of Revenue.

Tuesday a representative from the state's Department of Revenue said the hotel's owners haven't paid state sales taxes since June. And they haven't paid the withholding tax since last September.

If you remember, dozens of hotel employees say several of their paychecks bounced in the last few months.

Portfolio-Cedar Rapids owns the hotel, but the parent company is Kronos Hotels in Atlanta.

The hotel also owes the city of Cedar Rapids nearly $72,000 dollars for fees like parking and the lease agreement, according to the city's finance department.
