CEDAR RAPIDS - A Linn County judge will listen to the 911 call about a Cedar Rapids double murder case to see if that tape should be made public.
Kyle Marin, 19, faces two first degree murder charges in the deaths of Molly Edmondson and Katrina Hill. The two cousins, both Kirkwood Community College students, were found stabbed and beaten to death at Edmondson's apartment on April 23rd.
Monday's hearing only concerned a media request to release the 911 call about the murders. Hill's father reportedly found the bodies and called police.
Marin's attorney says the tape could potentially prejudice a jury pool in Linn County. But an attorney, representing the media saw things differently. Attorney John Bickel says the intent of the public records law is to allow such records to be released and "It is only in an exceptional case that type of a report, a 911 call, is not released."
The judge will review the tape and listen to more arguments later this week.
