Investigators: Drugs Weren't Involved

IOWA CITY - During the press conference regarding the Sueppel family, investigators said there was no sign drugs played a role in the murders. When Steven Sueppel was first indicted for money laundering and embezzlement, he told investigators he spent some of the money on cocaine.

However, authorities said Tuesday that Sueppel later recanted his story of using the money for drugs.

Investigators also said they never found evidence of illegal drugs in the Sueppel house back when the indictments were first issued, nor during the search after the murders.

Why else would a man kill his family? My heart goes out to the family...you deserved better.

It truly distressed me to see pictures of the Sueppel family as a unit. I think it would have been better to show the children with their mother only. To show them as a family, all smiling around the Christmas tree hurts my heart. How about showing the father seperately, as the perpetrator? Steven Sueppel was tremendously selfish, and to say he was a loving father is absurd. If Sheryl had survived do you think that is what she would be telling everyone?

The admission over cocaine use and embezzlement is consistent with drug addiction. The denial of cocaine use and insanity associated with these deaths is consistent with drug addiction. I think the police should look harder into the drug relatedness of this crime.

This is just horrifying. I can't stop thinking about how terrified his wife and children were before they were murdered. My heart goes out to them and their families for their losses. It sounds as if they had strong faith and I pray that they are safe in God's hands now, where they won't ever be harmed again. I'm so very sorry for your great loss, family and friends of Sueppel family.

my comment is from reading coments last night that had the forgiving public saying to think of this creature actually should be prayed for , he was a victim. let me tell you public your way of forgiving makes me not be able of sleeping. this piece of flesh needs more suffering than it will ever receive.

I knew Steve from working at HB&T. He was a very nice man. I cannot stop thinking about what has happened. We will never know the reason why, but I pray their families will find closer.
