CEDAR RAPIDS - One person is dead after a shooting at an apartment building at 3308 Oakland Rd. NE in Cedar Rapids. Police say they found Calvin Stringer, 29, of Cedar Rapids dead just outside of the building around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Tenants who provided details about the crime for police later watched as paramedics took the body away from the screen.
Police taped off the entire complex to search for evidence outside and are calling the death a homicide.
Police blocked off the roads around the building as they searched the area outside for the shooter. A large pool of blood laid just beyond the building's front steps. Tenants watched as paramedics took the victim's body away on a stretcher.
When TV9's crew arrived at the scene, an officer asked the photographer to back away because the shooter could still be inside.
A neighbor told TV9 police stopped him as he walked by the apartment thinking he might be the shooter. They did release him and continued their search.
Email Josh Hinkle at Josh.Hinkle@kcrg.comPolice say they have no one they can call a suspect at this time. They say they will release more details later Wednesday.
